While sitting at a stoplight, a man in a van pulled up next to me. Instead of pitching his mobile car wash service immediately, he complimented my car. He said, &#8220;Hey man, nice looking car! I need to buy one of these.&#8221; I thanked him, and then noticed his van&#8217;s signage about his mobile car wash business. This opened the door for me to mention that I had a moving company and might need his services for regular vehicle washes.<\/p><p><br><\/p><p>Had he approached me with a direct sales pitch, I likely would have turned him down immediately. But by starting with a compliment and a positive interaction, he created an opportunity for a potential business relationship.<\/p><p><br><\/p>\n<p>Serve First, Sell Later<\/p><p><br><\/p><p>In sales, whether it&#8217;s real estate sales, seller finance, subto (subject-to investing), or any other strategy, you must focus on serving first.
