Marketing Hard? Here's Why Complaints Could Mean Success!

Hey gang, this is Mike with My Real Estate Dojo. Today's topic is crucial for real estate investors: How do you know if your marketing plan is working? Let's dive in and explore why complaints might actually be a sign of success in real estate marketing.

The Reality of Real Estate Marketing

Often, I advise my students to engage in various marketing strategies, such as text messaging campaigns. Imagine you send out a call blast or a text blast to thousands of people. Almost immediately, you start receiving responses. Some people are telling you to stop, expressing their annoyance or even hostility.

For many, this negative feedback might seem discouraging. But here’s the truth: When people respond negatively, it’s a strong indicator that your marketing is working. Here’s why.

Negative Feedback is Positive

  1. Proof of Delivery: Negative responses show that your messages are being received. Your marketing is reaching your audience.
  2. Branding Impact: If your message irritates someone enough to respond, it has made an impression. It means they noticed you.
  3. Engagement: Engagement, even negative, is better than no response. A lack of any response could mean your message wasn’t delivered or wasn’t compelling enough.

Real-Life Example

Back in 2007-2008, during the market meltdown, I was heavily involved in real estate investing. I used bandit signs to advertise in McKinney, Texas. My brother and I placed these signs throughout a nice neighborhood. We were followed by a lady who called the police on us. Initially, I questioned if we were doing something wrong.

Despite breaking some local code violations, I knew we were providing a valuable service by helping people who were losing their homes. The lady’s reaction didn’t deter me. Instead, it confirmed that our marketing was effective and noticeable.

Embrace the Haters

No matter what type of marketing you use—flyers, text messaging, call blasts, or bandit signs—there will always be people who oppose your methods. These are often dream killers who want to stop your progress. Don’t let them.

Negative feedback should be seen as validation. It means your marketing is cutting through the noise and making an impact. The more responses, even if they are negative, the closer you are to finding motivated sellers who need your services.

Stay the Course

  • Track Responses: Keep track of both positive and negative responses to gauge the effectiveness of your campaigns.
  • Ignore Naysayers: Don’t let negative comments derail your efforts. Stay focused on your goals.
  • Hustle Relentlessly: Continue pushing forward, knowing that every negative response brings you closer to a potential lead.

Final Thoughts

Real estate marketing is not for the faint-hearted. It involves thick skin and a relentless drive. Complaints and negative feedback are signs that your marketing is reaching people and making an impact. Use this feedback as motivation to keep going.

So, keep hustling and bustling, don’t take no for an answer, and view every complaint as a step closer to success. This is Mike with My Real Estate Dojo, reminding you to stay persistent and positive. Happy marketing!
